Palworld Best Early Game Mounts – Land Mounts, Water Mounts & Flying Mounts

Palworld is a game that asks a lot of the player when it comes to exploration. You’ll get the feeling that you are beginning to master all the game can throw at you, only for you to travel a little up the road and find super high-level Pals, powerful mob enemies, and harsh terrain.

This is already a challenge, but imagine if you had to cover all that distance on foot. Thankfully, that isn’t the case, and Palworld offers a series of great mounts that can help you travel across land, sea, and through the air.

However, in the early game, a lot of these options won’t be available to you, because you’ll only have so many Pals you can realistically capture, and even if you did catch or breed a ridiculously good Pal, their mount skill won’t be available until you hit a higher level.

So, with that in mind, we want to give you our selection of the Best early-game Mounts in Palworld and allow you to get where you need to go in style. So without further delay, here is Indie Game Culture’s Palworld Best Early Game Mounts Guide.

Selection Criteria

To make sure this is a good list, we need to define what we mean by early game, and we need to set some parameters on what makes a good mount in Palworld. So here are the criteria we ran with:

  • All Mounts listed will be available to unlock between levels 1-21
  • We will be reviewing mounts and listing the best based on their speed, abilities, battle acumen, and availability
  • All Mounts listed must be realistic and available to beginner players
  • We will also consider their location, and how easy they are to catch

Okay, let’s ride! Here are our Palworld Best Early Game Mounts!

Best Palworld Early Game Mounts

#1 – Rushoar

Mount Unlocked At: Level 6

Special Ability: Mining Proficiency When Mounted

First up, we have Rushoar, the mount that can be acquired the earliest in the entire game, making it a must-have for beginner Palworld players. This mount isn’t the fastest, nor is it the best for exploration in the long term, but when push comes to shove, any mount is better than no Mount.

That being said, Rushoar isn’t the worst Pal around. They do pretty decent neutral and ground damage for beginner players, and they do come with a unique ability that allows them to mine rocks while charging with more proficiency, so you can gather supplies as you ride. As I said, it is not a long-term option, but an option nonetheless.

#2 – Melpaca

Mount Unlocked At: Level 7

Special Ability: Produces Wool When Farmed

Secondly, we have the next available mount option in the form of Melpaca, an adorable Alpaca that can be farmed at a Ranch to produce Wool when you aren’t out exploring the world.

Again, as a mount, this Pal is pretty unremarkable. They aren’t fast or agile, but they are a bit better when it comes to battling while mounted, as they have a better variety of moves than Rushoar.

I would say, if you are willing to grind an extra level to get Melpaca, it’s probably worth making them your first mount ahead of Rushoar for functionality and cuteness.

#3 – Eikthyrdeer

Mount Unlocked At: Level 11

Special Ability: Double Jump

Now, we get into the more useful mounts that aren’t just chosen because they are the default option. As a Mount, Eikthyrdeer is a decent long-term option for exploring, at least until you get Fengalope, as this Pal can double jump when mounted, which allows you to clamber up cliff faces and generally traverse the world much smoother atop Eikthyrdeer.

They also offer a decent early-game option in battle with good stats and neutral damage, and they can be butchered for Eikthydeer Vension when they are of no more use. Heartless I know, but a Pal tamer’s got to eat!

#4 – Direhowl

Mount Unlocked At: Level 9

Special Ability: Increased Speed

Next up, we have Direhowl, a wolf Pal with a unique ability that will appeal to a lot of beginner players looking to cover ground and explore all four corners of the map. Direhowl isn’t the best battler and will likely only serve as a Pal for exploration purposes, but they are a great exploration pal to have.

Their unique mount ability makes them significantly faster than most other land mounts in the game, and as a beginner, we can guarantee you that you won’t find a faster land Mount in the game until you are at a vastly higher level.

#5 – Arsox

Mount Unlocked At: Level 16

Special Ability: Heats The Player When Mounted

If you’re looking to explore the colder regions of the map, and your Frost Resistant Armor keeps getting damaged, then Arsox may be the answer to your Armor-related woes.

Arsox is a great battler in the early game, has a balanced moveset, and, best of all, when in cold environments, as long as you are riding Arsox, you won’t take any cold damage.

In my eyes, Arsox is the best all-rounder for exploration, battling, and base building, which is why they are still my chosen land mount. So consider that an endorsement that Arsox is the real deal.

#6 – Chillet

Mount Unlocked At: Level 13

Special Ability: Adds Dragon Damage To Attacks when Mounted

Up Next, we have an Icy Ferret Pal that is a great option if you want a land Mount that can actually hold its own in battle.

There are loads of Mounts in the early game that offer boosts to their attack type, like Dinossum and Univolt, to name a few, but due to the early level you get Chillet at, and the fact that there is an Alpha Version, not too far away from the starting location, Chillet is our pick of the bunch.

This mount adds Dragon damage to all attacks when you are riding them. They have a great mix of Dragon and Ice-type moves, and generally speaking, they are a pretty good battler to have in your early-game squad. Their ability isn’t quite as unique as the rest, but Chillet is a fine option nonetheless.

#7 – Sweepa

Mount Unlocked At: Level 14

Special Ability: Increases XP gained for every Swee In Party

If you’re looking for speed, then Sweepa is not the Mount you are looking for, let me make that very clear before we proceed. However, if you want to earn XP fast, and make Sweepa an early to mid-game tank, then you might want to unlock their Mount ability and ride them in battle.

You see, for every Swee (The smaller variant of this Pal) you have in your party, which is up to four, you’ll get a bump in XP gained while Sweepa is mounted. This means that you can game the system here and use Sweepa’s herd mentality to buff them up into a carrier for those early game fights.

#8 – Nitewing

Mount Unlocked At: Level 15

Special Ability: N/A

While traveling across the land at pace is great and all, the ability to soar through the sky is much preferred and allows you to find rare items, Lifmunk Effigies, and more with ease.

Plus, it tends to keep you away from any unwanted encounters. There aren’t tonnes of Flying Mount options in the early game, but your best bet for quite some time is Nitewing.

Nitewing is an okay battler, but their main utility is that you can use them as a Mount to fly through the sky. The main issue with this Mount is that they are pretty slow, so exploration will be slightly limited, but much like Rushoar when at level 6. Any flying mount is better than none at all.

#9 – Vanwyrm

Mount Unlocked At: Level 21

Special Ability: Adds Damage To Weak Spot Attacks When Mounted

If you’re willing to bide your time for a little while longer, then you’ll be able to unlock Vanwyrm, a Dark/Flame type Pal that can not only fly through the skies but also comes with a pretty useful unique mount ability.

Vanwyrm grants the player higher overall damage when attacking the enemy’s weak spots, which can potentially allow you to be a sniper in the air, taking out Pals and Human enemies as you soar through the air.

Six levels is a long time to wait for this Mount, so do get yourself a Nitewing first, but when the opportunity arises to upgrade, make sure you do!

#10 – Surfent

Mount Unlocked At: Level 10

Special Ability: Can Swim Without Stamina Depletion

Then, lastly, we have the only Water Mount that players can access in the early game, and honestly, you’ll be pretty lucky if you do.

Throughout my entire time exploring Palworld up until past level twenty, I had never so much as encountered a Surfent. However, I was lucky enough to hatch one from a Large Damp Egg, and I reckon this is your best bet, too.

This Mount allows the player to ride them across the water’s surface, and Surfent will never lose any stamina. Meaning if you want to explore a far-off region of the map that would require more swimming than your body will allow, Surfent can help you out.

You’ll need to cross your fingers you get your hands on one, but if you do, you will be able to explore far off areas very easily.

Get On Your Mount and Ride!

So there you have it, all the best mounts that you can get in Palworld from level one to level twenty-one. You will find that in the late game, all of these mounts will be nothing but a distant memory.

But for now, these are your best options and will serve you well on your quest to conquer Palworld and become a master Pal Tamer. We hope this helps, and as always, thanks for reading Indie Game Culture.
