No murder mystery is complete without a bit of romance. While trying to discover who murdered the Idol that gave Grace her powers, you’ll have the chance to romance four possible characters in Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical.
I certainly have my favorites, but at the end of the day, each story is gripping and packed full of feelings.

Stray Gods: A Roleplaying Musical Romance – Inspire Love and Heartache with Your Choices

To gain some hearts, you will need to break some hearts in Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical. Romances aren’t uncommon in most RPGs or other genres, but the way Stray Gods handles them is exciting. You need to woo your prospective romance through the choices you make in the game and through singing.
During the game, you have the option of romancing Apollo, Persephone, Pan, and Freddie. Each character has their own history, goals, and likes and dislikes. Your romance occurs within a week-long journey of discovering who murdered another Idol–a deity from Greek mythology.
You only have a week to make someone fall in love with you, so you better decide wisely. Your Traits can help or hinder your goals. Using your Traits can open up unique dialogue options that allow you to flirt with one of the characters.
If you choose something or respond in a way that the character doesn’t like, they might not pursue a romance with you.
Another critical aspect of romancing in Stray Gods is a significant moment that locks you in a romance. Choosing the wrong character in that significant moment could end up locking you out of the romance entirely.
How to Romance Freddie – The Best Friend

- Major Choice: Siding with her over Pan.
- Likes: Letting her help, geek out.
- Dislikes: Pan, being kept in the dark.
Freddie is Grace’s best friend. They’ve been together seemingly forever and have seen each other through their ups and downs. Freddie highly supports Grace, even after discovering she’s become an Idol. She also happens to be an expert on Greek mythology.
If you love the friends-to-lovers trope, then you’ll enjoy romancing Freddie.
As a nerd, Freddie appreciates when you allow her to go off on tangents about the Greek gods. She also likes feeling useful and included. Keeping her involved and enjoying her help are the keys to romancing her.
There are a few things she doesn’t like either. She hates anything to do with Pan, so you’ll want to side with her whenever the two end up in each other’s faces. She also doesn’t like being in the dark about what Grace thinks or feels. Avoid those choices, and you’ll be able to flirt with her.
Finally, two significant events can lock you into her romance. The first is during a musical number in Freddie’s apartment with Grace. Pan arrives, and the three of them must determine whether Grace will accept Pan’s help.
If you want to romance Freddie, you need to let her help Grace rather than Pan.
The other pivotal moment comes near the end of the game. To avoid spoilers, if you want to complete Freddie’s romance, you must choose the red, or Kickass option, to never let Freddie go. You’ll know what I mean when you get there, and cue the tissues if you don’t heed my advice.
How to Romance Pan – The Bad Boy

- Major Choice: Choosing Pan over Freddie.
- Likes: Flirting, letting your wild side out, banter.
- Dislikes: Being too serious, being rejected.
Pan is the Greek God of the Wild. As you might expect, he’s a bit of a sly trickster with a thumb in everyone’s pie. He sleeps around, drinks, parties, and is always up for a good time. Despite all those red flags, he has a soft heart behind some thick skin. He’s used to being everyone’s punching bag, so he falls in line with it to make things easier.
He isn’t keen on exclusivity, so you’ll need quite the persuasion to have the satyr fall for you.
Pan enjoys flirting, passion, and a bit of chaos. Bantering is as enjoyable to him as foreplay. So, being clever or charming certainly has its perks.
Because he’s spent a long life being the butt of everyone’s jokes, he doesn’t like when people aren’t authentic with him. Despite what he says, he also hates rejection. Since he’s always out to have a good time, he doesn’t have time for Debbie Downers either.
There is one significant moment that locks you into Pan’s romance. When you meet him for the first time in the apartment Grace shares with Freddie, you’ll have a musical number play. You’ll have to decide whether to let Pan help you during the number. Choose the option to go with Pan, and you’re on your way to starting his romance.
Throughout the game, many other characters will try to pin the murder on him. Stick up for Pan, support him, and he’ll be in the palm of your hand.
How to Romance Apollo – The Sensitive Guy

- Major Choice: Choosing to stick with Apollo over Persephone.
- Likes: Music, being chill
- Dislikes: Being pushed, using his gifts
If you have a soft spot for sensitive guys who hide a whole lot of rage, then Apollo may be up your alley. He’s the God of Prophecy, the sun, and music. Since Apollo spends a lot of time with the Muses, he already has a particular connection to Grace. However, his former relationship with Calliope has put him in a melancholy mood.
Apollo likes to keep to the straight and narrow. He won’t do anything unusual for fear of locking Fate into place. He needs a bit of encouragement to try new things, so being charming and empathetic are ways to win his heart.
That said, pushing him too hard or too fast aren’t things he enjoys. You’ll need a lot of patience to draw Apollo from his shell. He also hates using his power of Prophecy. Don’t force him to use it if you want to avoid upsetting him.
To lock in Apollo’s romance, you need to choose to leave with him when visiting Persephone at the Underworld Club. If you decide to stay with Persephone, you won’t be able to flirt with him.
How to Romance Persephone – The Badass

- Major Choice: Choosing to stay with Persephone over going with Apollo
- Likes: Independence, strength, compassion
- Dislikes: Weakness, lack of compassion
Persephone has had a very troubled past. Her time as the wife of Hades could have been better, and you’ll learn some surprising details about their history together. Suffice it to say, she’s a single woman now. She has some power as the Goddess of the Spring, grain crops, and the former Queen of the Underworld.
While she may initially seem prickly, Persephone craves love just as much as the other romance options. Also, like the others, you must carefully break through the wall she keeps around her heart. A charming Grace can work wonders with Persephone. A kickass Grace also appeals to Persephone’s appreciation for someone who can stand up for themselves.
Speaking of her likes, Persephone admires strength and independence. If you can also show empathy and compassion, you’ll be able to move her and remind her of the young woman she once was before Hades kidnapped her.
Because of her prickly nature, it’s not hard to make her angry. She doesn’t have much interest in people who appear weak to her. Although she may seem cutthroat, she isn’t interested in ruthless, compassionless, people either.
The critical moment to lock in her romance is when she and Apollo get into a fight in the Underworld Club. You’ll have the option of leaving with Apollo or staying with Persephone. Choose to stay with Persephone to flirt with her in the future.
Can You Romance Everyone in Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical

While love is in the air in Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, this isn’t a game where you can romance everyone simultaneously. Like most Gods, they grow jealous if you show romantic attention to someone else.
So, you’ll need to choose who you want to romance early in the game. Most romances lock in after Act I, but even then, you can ruin your chance of romancing the character if you choose an option they don’t like. You might find yourself alone by the end of the game.
Because you cannot romance everyone simultaneously, this encourages you to replay the game. Try all the romances with different Traits selected for Grace to see which you enjoy the most.
