If you’re anything like me, then you’ve probably been waiting patiently for Focus Entertainment and Dont Nod’s narrative-focused RPG Banishers of New Eden since it was delayed into 2014 last year.
But the good news is that it’s finally here, and aims to offer a similar RPG experience to A Plague’s Tale, but with more action, more undead enemies, and thicker Scottish accents.
These games tend to be a little hard to navigate, especially if you’re on the lookout for all the weapons, equipment, collectibles, and shortcuts, but we intend to bridge the gap for you and help you become a master Banisher from the word go.
We begin our Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden Full Walkthrough with the beginning Chronicle, Landfall, which will see you arrive in New Eden, and investigate what happened to your old friend Charles Davenport.

Arriving in New Eden
After the beginning cut scenes, which set the scene of your new destination, you’ll eventually find yourself in control of Athea, one of the two playable characters within Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. This opening section is essentially a tutorial that will walk you through the basics.
You’ll need to follow Red, following the control prompts on the screen, to duck under debris, climb up ledges, and squeeze through small gaps. This will take you to a shack, where you will get split up from Red, and you’ll need to take an alternate path to link up with him again.
When you exit the gap leading into the shack, turn around, and you’ll see some flimsy-looking wooden planks blocking a path. Swing your sword to break these and proceed through the gap.
This will bring you to a new area where you will have your first combat sequence. You’ll need to fend off some standard Specter enemies. Using a combination of light and heavy attacks, you should make short work of them. You’ll also find a Letter nearby and be able to pick up some Specter Dust, most likely.
After a short interchange with Red, follow the path forward, and you’ll find some Leather attached to the fence up ahead. Grab this and then proceed to the area where you can see Red vanquishing some enemies below. Just keep moving past this and around the corner.
This will lead you to a small cave where you will fight more Specters, but this time, you will have a full Banish Guage, allowing you to instakill any enemy you choose while this bar is full.
Defeat them, and then a little further along the path, you will come to an Alpha Specter, which is just like the enemies from before but bigger and with more health.
The game will show you how to block, dodge, and perform Charged Attacks, which will be more than enough to get you through this encounter. After this, you’ll link up with Red, and you’ll be moments away from entering the town of New Eden.
Investigating The Town
Upon arrival, you’ll need to get your bearings, ask around, and find out where Charles and the Selectmen are hanging out.
Upon arrival, I would suggest you try to explore New Eden a little bit rather than heading straight to the Map Marker, as you will be able to collect some resources like Pyrite, Pieces of Eight, and more.
At the very least, you should head down to the Ruined Docks, as you will be able to find a Chest with Pyrite, Leather, and 39x Pieces of Eight inside.
After this, you’ll want to head into the middle of town, where you will find a lady called Lisabeth who will point you to the King’s Arms in town, which is where you need to go.
After finishing your conversation with Lisabeth, head up the hill to the top of town. you will find The Inn. and upon entering, you will trigger a cutscene.
In this scene, you learn that Charles has died investigating the Curse, and that many have fled or died because of this Curse. You will meet Fairefax, Pennington, and Thickskin, who you can then talk to after this encounter, but it’s not necessary unless you want more lore and exposition.
Searching Esther’s Home
When this cutscene concludes, you will then need to head back down the hill toward Esther’s home. Esther is Charle’s Widow and may have some information as to what happened to him.
This will trigger another cut scene where she explains what little she knows about Charles’ death, and then you will be free to explore her home and look for clues as to where and how he might have died.
There are a lot of items dotted around the home to help you understand Charles’s link to Red and Athea, as well as his character, but all the items needed to progress the story are upstairs.
In the room straight ahead when you get to the second floor, you will find a Letter, on the desk next to a Chessboard. This will detail that Esther didn’t attend Charles’s funeral, and this leads the pair to suspect that this is why Charles’ spirit still lingers.
Then, in the other room up the stairs, you will find scripture on his desk in the middle of the room, and upon reading, Red will drop another page that you can investigate. This reveals that Charles was interested in manifesting the curse somehow and banishing the spirit that plagues New Eden.
A Trip to The Cemetary
With this info, you now know that Charles probably went to perform a ritual in the cemetery to conjure this Spirit, so that’s where you’re off to next. Red will split from you to ask around for answers, so you are on your own from here on out.
The Cemetary is at the bottom of the town, so head down to The Docks and then head down the path on the right and break the boards covering the entrance to proceed.
You will find a Wisp and will need to follow it deeper into the Cemetary, and as you do, Wisp and Specter, enemies will attack you, so be on your guard and take these out as you go.
This will lead you to a place of Insight, and your Bane Ring will flash to indicate that. You’ll be able to carry out a ritual here, but only if you have Pyrite and Seashore Candles.
You’ll probably have enough Pyrite already, but if not, head up the top path behind the Ritual Spot, and you’ll find loads of veins of Pyrite on the cliff face.
Then, after defeating the enemies that spawn, head back down and go down the path toward the Shore and along the coastline; you’ll find a series of Flowers known as Seashore Candles.
Then with these items secured, you can now head back to the ritual spot where you can use these items to see a flashback of sorts, which will show you how Charles met his end at the hands of the Curse. After this plays out, head to where he was killed, and you’ll find his Bible.
You’ll then need to take this and head to Charles’ grave, and use this item to conjure him to ask some important questions. His grave is down the path toward the shore and on the right-hand side.
You can then use the Bible to perform this ritual, and upon doing so, this will trigger a cutscene where you can ask Charles questions and learn more about The Curse.
After you do this, Athea intends to Banish Charles, but Red will come just in time and insist that he deserves a proper rite of ascension, which Athea will reluctantly oblige.
After this, all that is left to do to end this chapter is to escort Esther back to her home, and then head to the Schoolhouse where you will be sleeping for the night. And upon resting by the fire, that will end the first Chronicle, Landfall.
A Spectre-Filled Spectacle
So there you have it, the first part of our full walkthrough detailing everything you need to know to get from start to end of Banishers of New Eden.
