Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals, the much-anticipated sequel to the pixel-horror epic, Oxenfree, is almost here, and it seems that developer Night School Studios is stepping up their marketing campaign in a big way. As they have released a series of chillingly eerie videos via their Youtube Channel, that we reckon could hold the key to uncovering the mystery within their new title’s storyline.
Here’s a quick look at the most recent clip that was posted on their channel titled LOO🀫 🀰WA◼︎ SIX:
This is just one of six similar videos that have appeared on their channel in the last week, and we can only assume that these strange clips contain key information and clues as to where the plot of the second game in the series is going.
We know through their video titled ‘Looping Back to Oxenfree’ as well as other media from the team that this game will exist in tandem with its predecessor, as this series likes to play around with the fabric of time. So, naturally, if something happened in the first game. Then chances are that it might happen again in some shape or form.
While we can’t make heads or tails of what’s going on in these clips, we know that some of you avid Oxenfree fans will already have your theories.
What we can assume is that, much like the first game, ARG will play a role in the game’s art style and presentation once again, blending real-world media and assets with cute-pixel vibes. Night School Studios all but confirmed this when they recently retweeted this hot take from Jesse Cox
Looping Back to Oxenfree
Unless you have been hiding under a rock, or haven’t been able to steal a family member’s Netflix account, you should be aware of Stranger Things, the popular sci-fi show which places the watcher in a surreal, eerie, 1980s setting. Well, if there was ever an indie game equivalent, it would be Oxenfree, a pixel-horror adventure that has you mess with the time-space continuum, leading to devastating, gripping results.
This game was a roaring success, with a reported 1,000,000+ copies sold all the way back in 2019, which more than justified the upcoming sequel.
Without giving too much away, Oxenfree’s story places you in the shoes of Riley, a teen hanging out on a deserted island with a clique of other teens. The intention is to attend an overnight party on the island, but things start to unravel when the group accidentally opens a ghostly rift to an unknown dimension, tearing the fabric of time. With only an old radio to hand and the power of curiosity, you will need to explore and uncover the secrets of this old Military island.
If you haven’t played the original, there is no time like the present, as the sequel is coming in six days at the time of writing. Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals releases on July 12th, 2023, and will be available on PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
