In Stars and Time Full Walkthrough – The Second Floor

Welcome back again to our In Stars and Time Full Walkthrough. In our last guide, we conquered the First Floor of The Castle and got one step closer to our battle with The King. We learned how Frozen Tears work; we fought some strange Sadness enemies, and, of course, we had some snacks courtesy of Bonnie.

Now it’s time to take on the next floor of The Castle, where we will need to find more keys, use time to manipulate loops, and Siffrin will probably have a few sharp puns to punctuate this portion of the adventure, too.

Let’s get looping; this is Indie Game Culture’s In Stars and Time Full Walkthrough – The Second Floor Guide

The Second Floor

Getting A Star Crest

We begin this floor in a similar situation to the last. There is a huge locked door ahead of us blocking the way forward, and two hallways on the left and right to explore, so again, for the sake of following this guide, let’s go right.

After a hallway with a single Sadness, you will come to a doorway leading to a Classroom. Here, you will find issue #32 of The Cursing of Chateau Castle, a Super Sweet Tonic, and will also learn about Vaugarde naming traditions.

There’s something important hidden here, too, but Siffrin isn’t aware of it at this moment, so you can move on.

Further along the hall, you will enter a doorway with another Star Crest Sadness, which you will need to defeat if you want to clear Frozen Tears on this floor. This battle is practically the same as the one had on Floor One, but to help you out, this Sadness has Scissors typing.

Breaking The Loop

The way forward is now blocked by a locked door, which will require the Paper Key, so you’ll want to work your way back to the left hallway.

When you begin exploring the left hallway, you’ll find a Housemaiden who has been frozen in time, which rocks Mirabelle to her core. She’ll give some backstory on all the frozen characters you find within the castle, but this one is important as it allows the game to tutorialize a new status effect in battle.

Some enemies will be able to freeze your companions in time, which can be cured by a skill Mirabelle has not unlocked yet or can be cured by performing a Jackpot Attack. So keep that in mind.

Moving on to the next hallway segment, you’ll immediately come to a doorway leading to a Botany Room with huge plants.

In this room, you’ll find Garden Scissors, which can be equipped to Siffrin, as well as Two Super Tonics, and a Sweet Tonic. You’ll also find a House Cook frozen in time, but as far as gameplay is concerned, we are done here.

Moving forward, you will then either naturally walk into the Housemaiden’s Office, or be urged to by Mirabelle. Basically, you end up going there no matter what.

There’s nothing of note here besides the shimmering light at the desk, so go ahead and search this area for clues and info. After some time searching, Shiffrin calls it quits, and you can walk out of the Office again.

At this point, a giant boulder will fall, blocking the doorway, and while that isn’t ideal, at least it didn’t crush you this time.

Move on to the right, and you’ll come to a locked door, only to realize that the key was indeed in the Housemaiden’s Desk. This will cause a broken loop where you cannot progress. So head to the Frozen Tear just before the Housemaiden’s Office and work your way back to this point. I’ll wait.

Getting The Rock & Paper Key

At this point, you should have beaten the Star Crest sadness again and returned to the Housemaiden’s Office. Upon the second inspection of the drawer, you’ll learn that there was indeed a key in there, The Rock Key. Take this, and then head to the doorway you were blocked at last time.

Interact with the frozen person just ahead to learn a little bit about the Vaugarde custom of Bonding Earrings. You can head back to the Classroom from before to learn more if you like as a side quest of sorts, but we will be heading back there later anyway.

Keep pushing forward, and you’ll reach the Castle Library, where you will find a Heavy Book that can be equipped to Odile.

Plus, in the top left corner, after looking at the book, ‘Effort: The Key to Meaningful Change’, you’ll find the Paper Key inside.

Getting The Scissors Key

This will allow you to explore the hallway to the right further. Head over there and use the Paper Key, and this will lead you to a section divided by two rows of Frozen Tears blocking the way.

One way leads to the Key you need to progress, while the other is a dead end. With a split vote on which way to go, you are the deciding factor.

You’ll want to go with Isabeau and Mirabelle on this occasion, ‘The Beauty Alliance.’ This will lead you into the Boulder Storage room where you will find the man who stole Mirabelle’s priceless The Cursing of Chateau Castle issue, and also, the Scissors Key.

With all the keys secured, you can now head to the main doorway and open up the way forward to the Third Floor.

The Second Floor Boss

This will lead you to the second boss battle of In Stars and Time, which is a little trickier than the last. This will see you face off against two Sadness enemies, but the best strategy to get this over and done with fast is to focus solely on one of them, specifically the Long-Haired Sadness.

This is because when the other reaches a low enough HP, the Long-Haired Sadness will sacrifice itself to save the other and replenish its HP. Then, you only need to deal with one boss without a healer helping them out.

You should also learn some new skills through defeating this boss. Isa should learn Break, Break, a way to lower enemy defense. Then Odile should learn Paper With a V, a stronger paper attack than she previously had access to.

This will lead you to the room where you can save, the room you will return to if starting a loop at Floor Three, and as is custom, you’ll get another round of Snacks courtesy of Bonnie.

I chose the Fish Head just for kicks, but again, the choice is yours. Just a little tip, though: if you choose the Pineapple Slices, you will choke and die, but also, there is an achievement in it for you if you do choose them. Think that’s worth mentioning.

Floor Two: Done and Dusted

So there we go, two floors down, one more to go! We are making excellent progress, learning a lot about our companions and this interesting world, and we are within striking distance of The King.

I hope you’ll join me on our next guide as we aim to take on the Third Floor and all the perils that await us there, and as always, thanks for reading Indie Game Culture.
