In Stars and Time Full Walkthrough – The Third Floor

Welcome to another segment of our In Stars and Time Full Walkthrough. Provided you didn’t chow down on any Pineapple Slices at the end of the Second Floor, you should be ready to take on the Third and final floor of The Castle.

After we take on this challenge, all we will need to do is take out the King and restore Vaugarde to normality.

Ah, if only it were that simple, but we will get to that later. For now, it’s time to find some keys, kill some Sadness enemies, and uncover more time-loop secrets in this wonderful Indie RPG.

So without further delay, here is Indie Game Culture’s In Stars and Time Full Walkthrough The Third Floor Guide.

The Third Floor

Finding The Smiling Key

Having replenished all stats with some tasty snacks, head out to the Third Floor, and you’ll have the usual setup. A big door up front, and two hallways on the left and right.

Only this time, you will immediately notice a shimmering light on the ground in front of you. So be sure to check this out, and you will receive the ‘Empty Key.’

After this, we need to choose a direction, and seeing as I’m running the show here, I say we start by going left. This will take you to a hallway where you will find two doorways opposite each other. The North Door will lead to an area blocked by a series of Frozen Tears; remember this for later.

Then, in the South door, you’ll find a room filled with Miniature Change God figures and will find the recipient of the Bond Earring from before, Two Salty Broths, a Lump of Clay Souvenir, and most importantly, Papier-Mâché Gloves

This is a vital item to pick up and equip as this allows Isa’s attacks to change from Rock to Paper, offering more versatility in combat.

The door further up the hall will require the Smiling Mask Key to open, so you’ll want to head back to the main room, and then explore the halls on the right. When you do, you’ll want to head north. You’ll see another locked door, but you’ll need the Angry Mask Key to open that, so head straight past.

This will take you to a room with a huge Mirror. Interact with it, and before long, Isa will realize what it is. It’s effectively a camera, and you’ll all get snapped with only Isa having the wherewithal in the moment to smile.

This will also grant you the Memory of Reflection, which will boost your party’s defense at the beginning of each battle. You can then pocket the Mirror Picture Souvenir, and behind you, you’ll notice something glowing on the floor. Go investigate, and you’ll find the Smiling Key.

Getting The Angry Key

You can then investigate the lower hallway before making your way back over to the Left Hall. You will come to a room with a Dog and their Owner.

Here, you will find a Book on Croissants, which Siffrin naturally tunes out when realizing. However, when he’s asked to participate in the conversation, if you answer by agreeing that Odile is cute, you will unlock an achievement and learn the Memory of First Strike. A skill that makes all party members a little faster at the beginning of battles.

You will also find Pepper Juice, and if you check the wall on the right, you will find a Secret Passageway. This will lead to a room with Five Sweet tonics, Three Super Sweet Tonics, Three Salty Broths, and Three Crafted Waters. As Isa says himself, Jackpot!

This room also has some fun dialogue options, including one that reveals a little of Siffrin’s past, which is well worth a look.

When you work your way back to the Left Hall and open to door with the Smiling Key, you will come to a hallway where the south area is blocked by Frozen Tears. Make a note of that, and then continue to the north.

This will take you to the end of the hall with a doorway leading straight on, as well as right and left. Beginning on the left, we have Mirabelle’s room.

There isn’t much of note here aside from a few fun tidbits to learn more about Mirabelle, and there is also a vial too, but the most important discovery is the Cupboard with the ingredients needed to build a Bomb.

In Stars And Time the third floor a long thingy thing

This bomb can be built and thrown at the King, but you’ll need to find some additional components. You’ll need to find ‘A Long Thingy-Thing’, and a ‘Secret Ingredient’, and grab the Short Gizmo Gadget from this Cupboard. Again, keep this in mind, but it’s not super important right now.

Then, to the right, you have a Doorway with an Open Phrase that you can’t open yet. You can check it out if you like, but there’s nothing for you in this room right now.

So instead, head straight ahead, and you’ll find a room where you can grab Pepper, Thyme, and Ginger Juice. You can find Two Salty Broths, and you’ll also find the Angry Key. This will allow you to open to door you found in the right hallway, so let’s work our way over there.

Using Our Star Crest Wisely

When you open the door, you’ll be greeted by another Star Crest Sadness, and as usual, you’ll need to take it out to get your hands on a Star Crest. For those that want to know, this one is a Rock type.

After you defeat it, you then have three different paths on which you can use your Star Crest. The path closest to you past the Mirror Room is a dead end but will allow you to reveal an Open Phrase for a locked door somewhere in the Castle.

Then secondly, you have another dead-end option in the area with the doorways opposite each other in the Left hallway, with the North Door leading to an area with a huge window looking out upon the stars.

Someone was clearly mapping the night sky from this room, but sadly, this room has nothing to offer you at this moment in time.

In Stars And Time the third floor crying key

So, the option you want to go for is the Frozen Tear barricade in the left hall, where the southern area is blocked.

This will lead you to a locked door where you will require the Crying Key, which you will learn thanks to a note on the door, is hidden in Marc’s secret notebook in Room 403, otherwise known as the Classroom on the Second Floor.

This means you’ll need to use a Frozen Tear to head back and grab it. I’ll wait here until you do.

Getting The Crying Key

After you get the key from the Classroom and retrace your steps back to the Crying Mask Door, you can head through, and along the way, you’ll all stop to powder your nose, giving us a moment to enjoy some of Siffrin’s internal monologue, and then you can head on. This will lead you to an intact Change God Statue, the first non-broken one you’ll have come across.

In Stars And Time the third floor the keyknife

This gives Siffrin an opportunity to pray to the God of Change, and upon wishing for Victory, you find yourself holding a Keyknife. An item that is almost definitely sharp enough to cut through the thick vines stopping you from accessing the Main Door.

In Stars And Time the third floor vines

At this point, the Change God will rather conveniently teleport you back to the Main Hall, where you can access the Main Door and try out your new KeyKnife.

It works a treat and slices the vines, allowing you to press on forward, but also, sadly, breaks on impact, which is a shame because it would have probably been a great item for combat.

The Third Floor Boss

Then we find the Third Floor Boss, a tough challenge that seems like it resists pretty much every attack you throw at it at first. It’s a strategy that takes a little bit of experimenting to work out, but to save you time and effort, here is how this Sadness works.

In Stars And Time the third floor 6 hands enemy

This enemy has six hands, two of each being either Rock, Paper, or Scissors, and then it has the main body, which is the one that has all the HP.

You need to be able to damage their main body, but they resist all types at the beginning of the battle. To create a weakness, you need to take one of their hands, and this will make them vulnerable to that type of attack.

So the ideal strategy here is to choose one type of attack, ideally, the one you can generate the most damage for consistently, and keep chaining attacks until one or both of these hands are gone.

This will then make them vulnerable to the opposite kind of attacks, and you can then use those to deplete the main body of this Sadness’ health down to zero.

Really, this battle is only tricky if you don’t know what the strategy to beat this enemy is, so with this knowledge, this should be a piece of cake.

Hail To The King

After defeating this boss, all that stands in your way now of certified hero status is The King, who is just up ahead. Along the way, you will find Claude, Mirabelle’s roommate, who is building the Bomb, and on them, they will have a ‘Secret Ingredient.’ This will be important to know in future runs, so keep this in mind and then continue.

In Stars And Time the third floor hail to the king

This will take you to a Save Point, where you can loop back to if you want to take on The King without navigating any of the previous floors.

This is where you will all have a huge heart-to-heart with Mirabelle, have your final snacks, thanks to Bonnie, and then up ahead is the battle with The King. Plus, you will also get the Memory of Butt-Kicking, which will provide a skill that will allow Mirabelle to revive any party member once per battle.

Up ahead, you will then be able to interact with the King for the first time of many. He will inform you of his desire to keep the world frozen in a perfect state of bliss, and Mirabelle will inform him assuredly that he’s about to get an ass-whopping. Which leads to your big clash with The King.

In Stars And Time the third floor vision attack

I would offer you some strategy at this moment, but in truth, there isn’t much point. You see, you need a special skill to defend yourself against the King’s most powerful Vision Attack, and without it.

Well, let’s say it’s not going to end well for you. So play out four turns as you wish, and then prepare for an attack so powerful that it will kill your entire party in one hit.

In Stars And Time the third floor kings vision attack

At this point, you will wake up in the Starting Field as you always do, and your next task in this time-looping epic is finding a way to defend yourself against the King’s Vision Attack. But we can save that for next time!

A Valiant Effort

As you can see, the King is no pushover, and without proper preparation, he will steamroll you every single loop.

So, in our next In Stars and Time Walkthrough, we will be discovering just how to make that dream a reality, and will be running through how to beat the King when we do get to take him on in a fair fight. Until then, thank you for reading Indie Game Culture!
