Next up, we have the Gruz Mother, a boss that, in my opinion, is much easier than The False Knight, especially if you already have Vengeful Spirit, but nonetheless, we intend to guide you through this encounter to make sure there are no hiccups.
We will show you where to find this beast, how to take them down, and we will also discuss the new Shop in Dirtmouth that is unlocked after you defeat them. So, without further delay, here is How to Beat Gruz Mother in Hollow Knight.

Hollow Knight Full Walkthrough – How To Beat Gruz Mother
Finding Gruz Mother
Gruz Mother is a pretty easy boss to locate, especially if you did a little bit of exploring before you fought The False Knight. To find them, it’s best to start by heading to the Dirtmouth Stag Station, and then ride it to the Forgotten Crossroads Station. Then, from there, we want to head southeast.
This will lead you into an area with a few Aspid Hunters and an Aspid Mother. Be sure to take them out fast and try to avoid the mother laying too many Aspid Hatchlings, as this can get overwhelming fast.
After this, get the Small Geo Cache in the top-left corner of this room before heading along the path on the bottom-right, and along this path, you will find a Leaping Husk to defeat as well.
Continue this way until you reach some ascending platforms, but don’t head up there, as in the little nook to your right, you’ll find Gruz Mother sleeping. So compose yourself, take a deep breath, and give them a little jab with your Nail.
Fighting Gruz Mother
As I mentioned, compared to the False Knight, this battle is marginally easier, and with Vengeful Spirit, this is a very short fight indeed.
You’ll want to begin the fight by casting as many Vengeful Spirits as your SOUL meter will allow. Then try to land a few basic attacks for good measure.
At this point, Gruz Mother will almost definitely begin using their Wall Bounce attack, where they pinball off the walls of the fight area. The best course of action here is to focus on dodging, as landing hits can be a little risky.
This process will repeat over and over, so get a few hits in when Gruz Mother isn’t Pinballing, and use Vengeful Spirit when you have enough SOUL to do so. The only other consideration is that Gruz Mother may use basic slam attacks, but these are pretty well-telegraphed, so you can get out of the way in time.
Before long, you will have defeated Gruzzer Mother, and you can collect the 50x Geo she drops, but the fight isn’t over yet, so stand back and wait for a second.
After a short while, her belly will tear open, and 8x Gruz will fly out of her, and you will need to kill them all to proceed.
These enemies aren’t a major threat and don’t actively target you, so just take your time and kill them at your leisure. At this point, the door will open, and you can head out to the other side.
Sly Is Rescued
Just below the area where you fought Gruz Mother, you’ll find a small building, and inside, you’ll find Sly. Sly is a former resident of Dirtmouth that will return there after you talk to them.
They are a Merchant that will sell you a number of very helpful items like Mask Shards, Vessel Fragments, and much more. Here is a quick list of all the items that he sells from the moment he returns to Dirtmouth.

Of all these items, we suggest that you save and purchase the Simple Key, which will allow you to access Confessor Jiji’s Cave in the east of Dirtmouth, and you should also pick up the Mask Shard and Vessel Fragments when you get a chance.
Gruz Mother Is Smushed
As far as Hollow Knight Bosses go, Gruz Mother is about as tame as they come, but nonetheless, congrats on another victory.
